Hello!! Guy’s…. How are you?… I know you are fine. Today we are going to learn discuss measurement.
Dear engineering students or Interested visitors, if you are searching for free study notes. you are come right place.
Definition of measurement :-
It is a result of quantitative comparison between predefined standard & unknown quantity.
Standard :-
standards is a physical represention of a unit of measured.
Classification of measurements:-
1) Direct & Indirect measure.
2) Primary secondary & Tertiary measurement.
3) contact & non-contact type measurement.
1) Direct & Indirect measurements:-
1) Direct measurement :-
The value of quantity to measured is obtained directly without any calculation.
For ex. 1) length measure by steel rule.
2) Diameter measure by vernier
Caliper.
2) Indirect measurement :-
In this type of the value of quantity to be measured is obtained by measuring the others quantities which are functionally related to required quantity.
Ex. 1) Density of measure.
2) Area of measure.
3) Angle measure by sin bar.
2) Primary, secondary & tertiary measurements :-
1) Primary measurement :-
Primary is nothing directly measure value of quantity to be measured is obtained directly without any calculation.
Ex.1) length measure by steel rule.
2) Diameter measure by vernier caliper.
2) Secondary measurement :-
Secondary involves only one conversion to be done on quantity under measure.
Ex. 1) Temperature measure by thermometer
2) Pressure measure by nanometer.
3) Tertiary measurement:-
Tertiary is involving only two conversion to be done on quantity under measure.
Ex. 1) Pressure measure by bordon tube pressure gauge.
2) Speed measure by tachometer.
3) contact & non-contract type measurements:-
1) Contact type measurement :-
In this type of the sensing element of measuring instrument have physical contact with a quantity of measure.
Ex.1) Temperature measure by thermometer.
2) Diameter measure by vernier Caliper.
2) Non-contact type measurements :-
In this type of the sensing element of measuring instrument does not have physical contact with a quantity of at measure.
For e.g; 1) Measure of speed by contact less tachometer.
2) Temperature measure by radiation pyrometer.
